Driver held with five pistols

Behrampore, Aug. 3: Murshidabad police today raided a hotel in Behrampore and arrested a 30-year-old man with five 9mm pistols.

An officer said the police acted on a tip off and Haren Das was arrested from a hotel.

A Sumo, which Haren allegedly drove, was also seized.

“Haren Das told us he was a resident of Bongaon in North 24-Parganas and drove the Sumo. He told us that five youths had hired the vehicle yesterday from Bongaon for Murshidabad. But between Behrampore and Murshidabad, the youths got down,” the officer said.

The police said they were verifying Haren’s statements.

“It is not yet clear who those five youths were, why they hired the Sumo, or to whom the pistols belong. There hitch, however, is Bongaon is close to the Indo-Bangladesh border and Murshidabad tow is also not far. We will take Haren to Bongaon to check his antecedents,” the officer said.
