Gangster in jail, relief for cops

Motihari, Aug. 1: Almost four months after his escape, criminal Rajan Sahni — arrested late on Monday — was brought here this evening to be forwarded to jail.

Ever since his escape from police custody during production in the court on April 2, Rajan had become a concern for the men in uniform, said East Champaran SP Ganesh Kumar. Police sources said that in the past few months, even petty criminals have also started demanding extortion using Rajan’s name.

Rajan was arrested by East Champaran police during a raid in Mohna Urhara village under the Rajaina police station area in Banka district. Rajan’s arrest has come as a relief for the police, said the SP, adding that only after legal formalities in the matter, he would be forwarded to judicial custody this evening.
