Guwahati, July 31: A brace by foreign recruit Onyebi Nandos Ogbonna helped Dynamo Club blank Gauhati Town Club (GTC) 2-0 in the inaugural match of the Abhishek Motors Pvt Ltd RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Sports Association super division football league at Nehru Stadium here today.
Starting strategically on a sultry afternoon, the Nigerian striker capitalised on GTC defence lapses to put Dynamo ahead with a left footer volley from inside the danger zone as early as in the fifth minute.
Conceding the goal, the GTC men made several efforts to draw parity. They came close to scoring on several occasions, but lacked the sting to finish. The Dynamo defence was also strong enough to avert most of the moves.
Dynamo led by a solitary goal at the lemon break.
Into the second session, Dynamo started aggressively once again and their efforts soon bore fruit as Ogbanna found the net again to consolidate the lead.
He made no mistake in anticipating a back pass at the goalmouth from fellow African striker Abraham Goodluck and shooting in it with precision in the 58th minute.
The GTC men continued with their raids but were mostly pushed back from the opponent defence line.
Assam Police Blues will play defending champions Assam State Electricity Board SC in tomorrow’s match.
