Ushasie goes vroom
“The length of the dress rocks but I was apprehensive about the volume. I’m pleasantly surprised — it’s looking very nice, the silhouette makes it work!”

Not happy with your body? Tips and tricks to cheat your way through!

Befriend dark colours. It’s the oldest trick in the book and it works magic.

Play with print, create illusion. But yes, what they say about horizontal and vertical stripes — stick to the latter. You know the rule — there are no rules! Practise makes a woman perfect — so try on one outfit after another till you can’t take your eyes off yourself in the mirror.

Colour block cleverly. Wide hips + white pants ain’t the best style sum. If you are a pear shape, go for dark bottoms and colour block the top as you please. Monotones take away at least two kilos but pairing two different shades of black is style harakiri.

“I love my legs, I like my back but I definitely don’t love my arms! I am comfortable in short dresses and I don’t have a problem with sexy, but my arms are my problem. Shrugs are basically my best friends! This is my first sleeveless shoot and we have jumped straight into one-shoulder! Initially I was stressed, my arms were bare and my legs all covered — comfort zone reversed — but after the shoot I realised that my arms aren’t that bad! Hello
off-shoulders!”

Balance the proportions. Ushasie’s red dress clicks because a drop-waist detailing controls the voluminous silhouette. Balancing is as important when teaming separates. Pair harem pants with a slightly fitted tee. Tent + tent = HUGE tent.

Learn to strut in high heels. They will make you feel sexier and look slimmer. And taller.

Accessorise. Accessorise. And accessorise some more. A statement piece is a deal-maker — or breaker. A long chain can draw the eye down, making you look leaner. Pretty earrings dangling in delight can take the attention away from your double chin. A cocktail ring can turn the conversation away from your diet to your fabulous taste in jewellery. And the beauty of a bag can not be said in as many words.

Make it up with make-up. You wear your face every day; learn to wear it best. Sexy smokey eyes, on-trend coral mouth — all feel-good factors to keep you away from the body issues! Also, count in a flattering haircut.

If are you wearing something that shows off your weak spots, cheat. Stand in signature red-carpet pose — cross your legs or hand on waist, tilt your head and smile. You’ll look photo-finish ready, all the time!
