Not really tough for Mahesh & Rohan

London: The seventh-seeded Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, whose insistence to play together had sparked off a selection storm in the build-up to the Games, will open their campaign against Max Mirnyi and Alexander Bury of Belarus in the Olympic men’s doubles tennis event, to be held at Wimbledon, from Saturday.

Seasoned pro Leander Paes and his unfancied partner Vishnu Vardhan will take on Julien Jean Rojer and Robin Haase of the Netherlands in the opening round, as per the draw announced on Thursday.

In women’s doubles, Sania Mirza and her partner Rushmi Chakravarthi clash with the Taipei duo of Su Wei Hsieh and Chia-Jung Chuang in the opening round. Somdev Dev Varman, who got a wild card, will launch his campaign against Jarkko Nieminen of Finland in the opening round of men’s singles.

The No. 1 seed in the men’s singles, Roger Federer, will face Alejandro Falla in the opening round. Novak Djokovic, who won the singles bronze medal in Beijing, has been drawn against Fabio Fognini. Andy Murray will play Stanislas Wawrinka.

In the women’s draw, Serena Williams , seeded No. 4, will play Jelena Jankovic, while Venus will take on seed Sara Errani. Top seed Victoria Azarenka will play Romanian world No. 79 Irina-Camelia Begu.
