Vijay Divas

Kohima, July 26: Assam Rifles observed Vijay Divas today by paying tribute to late Capt. Neikezhakuo Kenguruse and other soldiers who laid down their lives in the Kargil war, at Kenguruse’s memorial in Pheza village, about 15km from here. The army also presented a bravery award on the occasion to K. Holhipe Mekrisuh of Chizami village for saving the lives of three children from a fire on July 17.

Suicide

Dibrugarh: A CRPF jawan identified as Satyendra Prasad Sharma, posted at Jamira camp in Bogibeel here, allegedly committed suicide on Thursday by shooting himself with his service rifle.

Convict death

Tinsukia: Kesab Reddy, an ASEB employee, who was arrested on charges of theft a few days back, was found dead on Thursday in his cell at the district jail here.

Surrender

Dibrugarh: An Ulfa (anti-talks) militant identified as Mukti Moran, surrendered at the 5 JKLI army camp at Paltanbazar here on Thursday. Moran also deposited a US-made carbine with a magazine and six rounds of amunition.

Body found

Nalbari: The body of Nuruddin Ahmed, 27, a resident of Raimodha village, was recovered from Baraliya in the district on Thursday.

Protest

Nalbari: Normal life was paralysd at Pathsala in Barpeta district, following clashes between police and local drivers’ union on Wednesday night. Bajali Saru Motor Poribohon Sanstha carried out a demonstration on Thursday after a driver Utpal Boro, was beaten up by police.

Lapse

Nalbari: Residents of Ghagrapar on Thursday beat up a peon of Barajol post office, Sanjiv Kalita, for having failed to deliver letters for the past two years, which were recovered from a bag. Kalita was later handed over to police.
