FIR for work delay

Calcutta Municipal Corporation on Thursday lodged an FIR against senior officials of a private company for allegedly delaying construction of a water treatment plant in Behala. Work for the Rs 18.58 crore project at Sen Pally in Ward 129 started in May 2011 and was scheduled to be completed in two years. Though 14 months have passed, work worth only Rs 1.14 crore has been done so far, said a CMC official.

Assam train

Eastern Railway will run a special train from Howrah to Dibrugarh on Friday. The train will leave Howrah at 11.15am and reach Dibrugarh at 5.20pm on Saturday.

Tiger

A tiger was brought to the Alipore zoo from the Sunderbans on Thursday for treatment. Forest department officials found the seven-year-old tiger not moving from his place inside Tirkhali No. 6 jungle for the last four days. Doctors failed to diagnose the ailment.

Body found

The decomposed body of a 55-year-old woman was recovered from a godown on Strand Road on Tuesday. The victim, Annapurna Pradhan, a resident of Kolaghat, had been missing since July 22.

Teacher

Twenty teachers from several state-aided universities in Bengal filed a petition in the high court praying for immediate issue of an order by the state government for payment of 80 per cent arrears to university teachers. The teachers demanded that the arrears should be given in a single instalment.
