Calcutta: Jayanta Gohain of Williamson Magor-A took charge at the end of the first day with a two-stroke lead in Division I of The Telegraph Merchants’ Cup and The Telegraph Challenge Cup, presented by EMTA in association with Ballantine’s at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club on Tuesday.
Madhya Bharat Papers Limited’s Akhilesh Chitlangia and Ishan Bajoria of Mcleod & Company Limited were jointly placed in the second spot with 75.
In Division II, Rajeev Mehrotra of Mcleod Russel India Limited-G was in the lead with 78. Raja Babu Ali of South Eastern Railway Sports Association was tied for the top spot with Williamson Magor Group-E’s B. Chakraborthy with 80 in Division III.
Moving to The Telegraph Challenge Cup, Shalimar Wires Industries Ltd were in the lead with 41 points, followed by Royal Touch Fablon Private Limited with 38. There was a tie for the third spot — both DBS Bank Limited and Senbo Platinum logged 37 points. Medica Hospitals’ Soma Bhan, who is the lone woman golfer to compete in the event, hit the best score in Division 3 with 60 nett.
