3 killed in mishap

Tinsukia, July 24: Three persons died on the spot while a woman was injured, when a Maruti Alto they were travelling in, rammed into a train at an unmanned crossing in Makumpathar today. The victims have been identified as Jity Gogoi, 32, Debeswar Kakoti, 62, and Harchita Gogoi, 2.

Accident

Tinsukia: Two youths — Karim Dhang and Ronaj Payeng — died after the motorcycle they were travelling on was hit by a van near Udaipur police station on Monday night.

Bear rescue

Itanagar (PTI): An injured Himalayan bear cub trapped by poachers was rescued by the army at Seppa in East Kameng district. On information, an army team from Tenga garrison reached the spot and took the injured cub to their camp and gave it first aid. The cub was handed over to the bear rescue centre at Pakke tiger reserve on July 18, a press statement said on Tuesday.

Appeal

Guwahati: Governor J.B. Patnaik has appea-led to people of the state to maintain peace and harmony. Patnaik, who is in New Delhi, expre-ssed anguish at the riots in Kokrajhar and Chirang.
