Two youths held for killing boy
Two youths were arrested and another was hospitalised after being assaulted in Serampore, Hooghly, on Tuesday for allegedly killing a boy whose brother refused to return Rs 4,000 he had won in a bet from them.
ajuddin, Mohammad Naushad and Chand Alam lost a bet and had to give their friend Mohammad Munnah Rs 4,000 on Friday. When they wanted it back, Munnah refused. The trio allegedly took his brother Mohammad Islam to a water body under the Seoraphuli-Tarakeswar bridge, strangled him and dumped the body in a bush. The boy’s father lodged a complaint on Saturday.
ajuddin and Naushad were picked up from Serampore while Chand was rescued from a mob that severely beat him up and sent to hospital. The arrested duo were remanded in four days’ police custody. They led cops to the crime spot.
Road block: Around 3,000 CPM supporters, led by party leaders Amitava Nandy and Ramola Chakraborty, blocked a part of Broadway Street in Bidhannagar on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum to Bidhannagar police commissioner Rajeev Kumar alleging Citu workers were being harassed by Trinamul men.
Drug arrests: Abhijit Das, 36, was arrested from his Naktala home on Monday night for possessing 10 grams of cocaine. The cops said Das was an associate of Nelson Vincent, who was arrested hours before Das for possessing 20 grams of cocaine. Both were remanded in police custody till July 30. |
