Imphal, July 22: Little Angels Thoubal emerged champions, defeating Oxford High School Imphal West by 4-2 goals during penalty shootout in the Under-17 State Level Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament at Khuman Lampak main stadium today.
With the win, Little Angels Thoubal have qualified to represent Manipur in the national-level Subroto Mukherjee Championship in New Delhi later this year.
Little Angels had more opportunities to score but lacked direction in their play, leaving the match to be decided by tiebreak.
In the subsequent penalty, Little Angels converted four kicks from Y. Gopi, P. Robindro, M. Rabindra and M. Johny for the victory today.
Kh. Roshiki and L. Joshikumar found the net out of the four kickers for Oxford High School.
In the Under-14 boys’ final, North East School Imphal East grabbed the champion’s title, defeating Hills Rose Churachandpur by 4-3 goals during penalty shootout as well.
Y. Rajshah, Thangam Langkham, H. Sailesh and Sundaynoon scored for North East School while Shahbaz and Th. James missed the mark.
Hills Rose scored through Gensonvel, Lalminlun and Mangliangen.
However,Lalmunzir and Steven G. Suantak failed to convert their kicks.
North East School will play in the Under-14 category in the national meet.
Super division league: Youth Organisation Sporting Club thrashed Khetri Iril Mapal Youth Club by 2-0 goals in the Imphal East Super Division Football League Tournament 2012 played at Khuman Lampak sports complex.
Playing their last league match, Youth Organisation found their target in the 21st minute with K. Inao scoring the opening goal to take the lead.
In the second half, Youth Organisation consolidated through Y. Khelchandra Singh in the 78th minute for the victory.
Zingsho, T. Lenker Roy, K. Premkumar of Youth Organisation and Md Heshamuddin of Khetri Iril were booked with yellow cards in the match.
Youth Organisation Sporting Club have collected nine points from the league while Khetri Iril Mapal Youth Club have four points.
The second match between XI Star Sporting Union and Youth Welfare Club Thambalkhong ended abruptly in the 50th minute of play after Youth Welfare protested the referee’s decision of awarding a free kick goal to its opponent.
The match at that stage saw XI Star leading by 3-1 goals and a final decision will be taken by the organising committee tomorrow.
