5 die in mishap
Tezpur, July 21: Five persons died when the car they were travelling in lost control and fell into a ditch near Barangabari, 15km from Gohpur, on NH 52 in Assam’s Sonitpur district last night. The bodies were sent to Behali civil hospital for post mortem, sources said.
Arm suppliers
Dhubri: Two arms suppliers to Ulfa, Tazuddin Ahmed, 22, and Asad Ali, 24, of Nikaripara village in Goalpara district were apprehended in a joint operation by the army and police from Chandangaon village under Gauripur police station in Dhubri district on Saturday.
Amendment
Nagaon: The Dima Hasao district autonomous council on Saturday passed the 45th amendment bill of NC Hills autonomous council constitution in a daylong special session of the council in Haflong, the district headquarters.
Gogoi stand
Guwahati: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday said he had asked Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar to ensure safety of passengers travelling from Assam via Bihar to other parts of the country.
Attack probe
Guwahati: The Arunachal Pradesh government has appealed to all sections of people to help the administration perform its duties so that the culprits involved in the attack on senior journalist Tongam Rina are arrested.
Resign
Nalbari: Twenty-five members, including general secretary of the NSUI resigned from its Nalbari district committee, sources from the students body informed. All the members resigned criticising the NSUI’s state and Nalbari district president Partha Pratim Bora and Deva Prakash Bhagawati respectively.
