Calcutta, July 21: Parthasarathi Shome, chairman of the newly appointed panel on General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR), today expressed hope that the committee would be able to meet the September 30 deadline for coming up with the final guidelines.
“The deadline of September is what we have been asked to meet. Certainly, we will meet it,” Shome said on the sidelines of an event of the Indian Chamber of Commerce today.
The committee has already initiated talks with stakeholders who would be affected by changes in GAAR.
“We are first talking to major and minor tax advisory firms familiar with the guidelines. We will talk to the finance minister and Planning Commission members. We will understand the views of the major chambers and look into some of the international practices,” Shome said.
Shome, who is also the chief executive of Icrier, said the debate between the state government and the Centre on goods and service tax needed to be resolved soon to set the economy on a dynamic growth path.
