Russia voices worry

New Delhi, July 17: Russia today impressed upon India the need to resolve the issues that may jeopardise Sistema’s $3-billion investment in the country’s telecom sector.

Russian deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin raised his concern in a meeting with external affairs minister S.M. Krishna here today. “We sought definite solutions to certain outstanding problems confronting our business communities and explored ways to enhance our trade turnover,” Krishna said. Referring to the issues that need to be addressed, Rogozin said, “We must do everything possible to address these problems as soon as possible for mutual benefit.”

The telecom licences of Sistema Shyam Teleservices (Sistema’s joint venture in India with Shyam Group) were among the 122 cancelled by the Supreme Court in February.
