Hazaribagh, July 16: Complaints regarding drainage, drinking water, electricity, roads and street lights poured in from the residents as Hazaribagh MP Yashwant Sinha today toured 15 wards of the town on a bike amidst heavy downpour.
The bike yatra with the veteran BJP leader as a pillion-rider started from Budhwa Mahadev Mandir at 10.30am and ended almost six hours later with Sinha directing deputy commissioner (DC) Manish Ranjan to address the people’s grievances.
The rain, which started from Sunday morning, gave the MP a first-hand idea about how roads turn into virtual death traps — thanks to clogged drains and waterlogging — during monsoon. No wonder, most residents raised the issue with him, claiming that it became really difficult for them to walk on the roads whenever it rained.
At Nawabgunj Mohalla, people drew Sinha’s attention to Chhath Talab, which they said had been lying neglected for years. Sinha promptly constituted a committee that will take initiatives to clean up the reservoir.
The residents of Nura came out of their homes and assembled on the road to apprise the MP of their miseries — bad roads, drainage system and no drinking water. “Humare yahan naali aur sadak ki hi jyada samasya hai (We mostly face problems related to improper drainage and roads),” said a resident.
In mohallas like Okni, Ramnagar, Shivpuri, Vishnupuri and Kumhartoli, the complaints were of similar nature. Sinha promised to ensure hand pumps and wells in the areas and also better roads.
But there were many who didn’t hesitate to air their personal problems. “I have a well in my house that needs to be repaired. I need your help,” said one of them to Sinha.
Residents of some areas, however, let go off the chance to meet the MP and stayed put inside their houses, as Sinha and his men on 60 to 70 bikes passed by. “It’s our fault. We create a ruckus when we don’t have adequate water and electricity. But when our MP visited our locality today, we didn’t seize the opportunity to air our grievances,” rued Bisheshwar Mehta of Okni.
Sinha, who wrapped up the journey at 5.15pm, penned down problems of the residents ward-wise. He also drew up a list of roads that need to be reconstructed or repaired and places where the drainage system has to be overhauled, deep-boring done and street lights installed.
