Lokayukta Amreshwar Sahay on Monday directed home secretary J.B. Tubid to initiate departmental proceedings against four police officers found involved in coal smuggling in Bokaro.
The order was passed under the provisions of Section 12(3) of Jharkhand Lokayukta Act. Sahay also directed vigilance bureau to investigate the matter further.
The accused officers are Amod Narain Singh and Sanjay Kumar, officers-in-charge of Chas (mufassil) police station, former OC of Chandankiyari police station Ram Sagar Tiwari, and Amlabad police outpost in-charge Ashok Kumar Singh.
In a petition filed in 2008, Bokaro resident Mrintunjay Sharma had complained against the burgeoning coal smuggling trade and a nexus between the police and coal mafias in Chas, Chandankiyari and Amlabad.
Earlier, the Lokayukta directed the vigilance bureau to initiate an inquiry. The bureau found the allegation to be true. The Lokayukta then asked the DGP to assign the case to CID.
