EB to honour

Ahmed Khan

Legendary footballer and Olympian Ahmed Khan will be honoured by East Bengal with the Bharat Gaurav award, on August 1, the club’s Foundation Day. The club have also requested the AIFF, IFA and sports minister Madan Mitra to consider the player’s name for the Arjuna Award or the Padma Shri.

Schools’ meet

La Martiniere will face Frank Anthony Public School in a Keventer Cup pre-quarter final match. In another match, St Lawrence will meet St Dominic’s School.

The inter-school football tournament is being organised by the Debanjan Sen Foundation.

St James’ win

National High School entered the semi-finals of inter-school knockout football meet on Wednesday when Assembly of God Church School withdrew owing to unavoidable circumstances. MP Birla Foundation HS School, St James’ and Albany Hall won their respective matches.

Biswarup case

Biswarup Dey, CAB joint-secretary, is likely to file a case of character-assassination after he receives a bail from the Metropolitan Magistrate Court (MMC) on Friday. Accompanied by lawyer Milon Mukherjee, Dey will head to MMC on Friday to first surrender, and then apply for bail regarding an arrest warrant issued against him, on grounds of lapses in fire-prevention measures at the temporary Super Hospitality Box of Eden Gardens during IPL 2010.
