Azarenka is No. 1 again

Calcutta: Roger Federer has not only equalled Pete Sampras’s record of seven Wimbledon titles, he has also has tied the American’s career mark of 286 weeks at No. 1 in the ATP rankings.

There’s also a new leader in the WTA rankings released this week. Victoria Azarenka rose one spot from No. 2, while Maria Sharapova dropped from No. 1 to No. 3.

In ATP rankings released on Monday, Federer jumped from No. 3 to the top spot, overtaking Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. The last time Federer was the No. 1 was in June 2010.

Among Indians, Leander Paes and Czech partner Radek Stepanek stood at No. 4, down a spot, in the ATP doubles team rankings released on Monday.

Likewise, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna too fell by one spot at No. 8. In the doubles rankings, Paes was at No. 5, Bopanna at No. 14 and Bhupathi at No. 15.

Sania Mirza slid three spots at No. 249, in the WTA rankings. She fell seven spots at No. 19 in doubles.
