Pinki MMS complaint

A complaint was lodged with the cyber police station at Lalbazar on Monday alleging that MMS clips showing athlete Pinki Pramanik undergoing medical tests were being circulated. he complaint has been lodged by the lawyers who had filed a PIL stating that Pinki’s arrest and detention were illegal. The complainants — Imtiaz Ahmed, Bharati Mutsuddi and others — also submitted a CD and a report to cops. “We have started a case against unknown persons under sections 66E and 67 of the information technology act,” said an officer. he report of Pinki’s chromosome pattern tests reached SSKM Hospital around 2.30pm on Monday. “The report is in a sealed envelope. It will be placed before the medical board tomorrow,” said Tamal Kanti Ghosh, the medical superintendent of SSKM.

Tatkal tickets

The railways will sell only Tatkal tickets from its computerised reservation counters between 10am and 10.30am from Tuesday, said an Eastern Railway spokesperson. After 10.30am, Tatkal tickets will be available only at general counters and passengers will have to stand in queue with those buying non-Tatkal tickets, he said.

Drug arrest

Police arrested alleged drug dealer Melvyn Smith, 49, from near his Picnic Garden home on Monday. Police sources said Melvyn was part of a racket. Charas weighing 1.5kg and worth around Rs 3 lakh was seized from his possession.

Leap from bridge

Class X student Kaushik Roy, a resident of 51 DN Ghosh Road in Kalighat, jumped off Howrah bridge on Monday morning. He could not be found till late on Monday. Roy, police said, was with two friends when the incident occurred. According to the investigators, the two friends said Roy had taken drugs before jumping off the bridge.

Accident

Gulzar Hussain, a 20-year-old man who was injured in a motorcycle accident late on Sunday, succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning. Gulzar, a resident of Palm Avenue, and his friend Sheikh Rintu fell down while riding down Bondel Road flyover. They were taken to Chittaranjan National Medical College and Hospital. Police said the two were not wearing helmets. n another accident Shubhadeep Sarkar, 31, died after a lorry hit his bike in Garia on Monday.

Suicide bid

An accused in a narcotics case tried to kill himself with a knife inside the Alipore court lock-up on Monday. Abu Jahan Hossain, alias Afzal, was arrested by officers of Rabindranagar police station on May 28. He was rushed to SSKM Hospital with stomach injuries. A probe has been started to ascertain how the accused got a knife.

Fire FIR

The state fire and emergency department has filed an FIR against the “owners and occupiers” of 6B Mullick Street in Burrabazar where a fire had broken out in a sari godown on Saturday night.

Fatal fall

Puja Shaw, 2, died after falling into a well in her house in Howrah’s Domjur on Monday morning. Police said the girl fell into the well while playing near it. Family members and neighbours contacted local well-diggers who rescued the baby around an hour later. She was declared dead at Howrah District Hospital.

Man held

A man was arrested from near the Bidhannagar commissionerate for allegedly damaging a parked government car on Monday. According to police, Saurav Mandal was among a group of BJP supporters who was at the commissionerate to submit a memorandum regarding how Pinki Pramanik was being treated in jail.
