RMC will set up the rainwater harvesting system on one of its premises in Ranchi. (Hardeep Singh) |
Practise what you preach seems to be Ranchi Municipal Corporation’s (RMC) motto at present with the civic body ready to set up rainwater harvesting structures on premises of its own.
To start with, the corporation will set up rainwater harvesting systems at its office in Kutchery Chowk, its godown at Bakri Bazar and a branch office at Doranda.
“Our engineering division has been asked to prepare blueprints and cost estimates for setting up the structures at the earliest. We realise that we could not but set up such structures on our own premises when we are advocating the same around the capital,” said mayor Rama Khalko.
Interestingly, it is the civic body, which has the power to approve building plans in the capital. And only those buildings that have the mandatory water harvesting systems in place are granted approval.
“Each of the three rainwater harvesting structures will cost around Rs 2-3 lakh. The blueprints would be ready in the next fortnight or so,” said an official of the civic body.
Once the blueprints and cost estimates are ready, the proposal would be presented in the board meeting of the civic body. “Clearing the proposal will be not a problem as many ward commissioners themselves have pushed the idea,” Khalkho said.
Very few government offices have rainwater harvesting systems in place. The exceptions are Raj Bhavan and Suchna Bhavan.
