Traffic lights for FE Island

The triangular island, between FE Block and Karunamoyee Housing Estate, has become a very busy crossing that could turn dangerous if precautions are not taken.

The island is the meeting point of four roads. One leading to Karunamoyee Island, the second to EE Block, the third leading into FE Block and the fourth to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s statue between FE and FD blocks.

Much of the traffic passing by this island is headed to or coming from Sector V and given the congestion at Karunamoyee Island, some of these cars try to take alternative routes through EE Block. Even otherwise, there are cars, buses, mini buses, autos and even Calcutta-Dhaka buses and Calcutta-Asansol buses plying by this island throughout the day.

While I thank Bidhannagar Municipality for beautifying the FE Island, I would request the authorities to install traffic lights here too. Precautions should especially be taken since the island is opposite Bidhannagar Municipal School.

Basudeb Bhattacharya,
FE Block

As an employee of Bikash Bhavan, I would like to express how difficult it is to find transport from Ultadanga to my office or Karunamoyee in the mornings.

The problem is particularly pressing on Mondays and Tuesdays. The autos at the stand next to Bidhannagar Station in Ultadanga prefer to ply to SDF Building and Technopolis in Sector V, while completely ignoring passengers headed to Bikash Bhavan and Karunamoyee.

I travel for five hours from home to reach office every morning. As if that isn’t tiring enough, I now also have to worry about finding an auto that will ply on its registered route. This problem is affecting us office-goers, especially on the first two weekdays, and causing a lot of inconvenience at our workplaces.

I appeal to the authorities to take action and ensure proper route management in these areas.
