Peter missive to secy

Ranchi, July 5: State disaster management minister Gopal Krishna Patar, alias Raja Peter, has asked chief secretary S.K. Choudhary to submit detailed reports on the geographical scenario of the districts and the level of preparedness to tackle natural calamities.

Peter will next request the chief minister to convene a meeting of the state disaster management authority and pass necessary instructions.

“The disaster management authority is headed by the chief minister, while the chief secretary happens to be its CEO. The preparedness of the districts to fight against disasters is rather pitiable,” the minister told The Telegraph.

“On the one hand, the departments linked to disaster management are not extending necessary co-operation and on the other, the local administrations are also indifferent,” he lamented.

In a strongly worded letter to Choudhary, Peter has questioned why the state disaster response force had not been constituted yet. He has also asked why the deputy commissioners of various districts had failed to convene meetings of disaster relief committees at the district and block levels.

“These expose the official machinery’s indifference to social responsibilities,” the letter said.
