New Delhi, July 4: Industrialist Anil Ambani today met Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and, reportedly, discussed issues related to the power and telecom sectors.
Ambani-owned Reliance Power is executing three mega power projects — Sasan (Madhya Pradesh), Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and Tilaiya (Jharkhand).
Sources said a ministerial panel was likely to take a final call on the changes proposed in bidding norms for mega power projects.
Ahluwalia, who is a member of the ministerial panel, will look at the norms prepared by the power ministry, which are likely to address the contentious issue of passing on the increase in raw material prices to the end-consumers.
Private power producers have sought an increase in the tariff of imported coal-based projects after Indonesia linked its fuel prices to the international market in September last year, which raised the input cost.
Once the bidding norms are finalised, it will pave the way for inviting preliminary bids for the mega projects.
The government proposes to set up two more projects in Odisha, one at Cheyyur (Tamil Nadu) and another at Sarguja (Chhattisgarh).
Anil Ambani also discussed telecom issues, including spectrum pricing, which has been referred by the cabinet to a ministerial panel.
Earlier this week, Anil’s brother Mukesh met Ahluwalia to discuss issues relating to KG gas.
