Man in cop net for killing trio

Keonjhar, July 2: A 32-year old man was arrested for allegedly killing a woman and her two children over a trivial issue at Pukurapura village on the outskirts of this district headquarters township last night.

Police have arrested the accused, Tukuna Munda, and recovered an axe that he used to kill the trio. The deceased persons were identified as Puna Munda, 30, her five-year-old son Ruguru and two-year-old daughter Mina.

The police said Puna Munda used to stay in a makeshift hut with her two children. However, she had been living under the sky ever since her hut collapsed sometime ago. She had a quarrel with Tukuna Munda of the same village yesterday. A police team later visited the village and tried to broker peace between Puna and Tukuna.

Eyewitness Sania Munda said: “About 11pm yesterday, Tukuna came with an axe and killed Puna and her children.” Sania, who had seen Tukuna killing the trio, informed other villagers who managed to overpower and lock him in a room. Tukuna was later handed over to the police.

“We have sent the bodies to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem. The accused has confessed to committing the crime,” said SDPO Dhruba Charan Puhana.
