Ranchi, June 30: A fine cricketer who chose a pen over his willow to make a career? Or the name of a beauty whom critics voted for the 2008 Femina Miss India crown?
Teasers like these tested the minds of students from six educational institutions who took part in an inter-school quiz organised by Tata Steel at St Xavier’s College here today.
The quiz, which was hosted by acclaimed quizmaster Lloyd Saldanha, saw 400 students taking part in its preliminary written round. The numbers were, however, trimmed to 12 after the first round with two students each from St Xavier’s, DPS-Ranchi, JVM-Shyamali, DAV-Ranchi, DAV-Kapildev and St Thomas School clashing in the final.
Saldanha kept tickling the grey cells of the participants with a mixed bag of questions, some of which stumped participants completely.
In the end, Aditya Lahiri and Ravi Roushan of St Thomas School finished on top and walked home with a cool cash prize of Rs 20,000. The JVM-Shyamali team of Shourya Singh and Shrejya Shambhavi finished second and were awarded Rs 15,000 as prize money. St Xavier’s Aakash Pati and Achchay Thakur finished third in the event and bagged Rs 10,000.
“The quiz was very informative and entertaining. Questions ranged from sports to academics to politics. The students put up a great show and the competition was very succ essful,” said Nilima Mishra, a student of St Xavier’s College.
And for those of you still wondering, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle gave up his career as a cricketer to give birth to detective Sherlock Holmes and Tata Nano was the critics’ first choice for the crown during the 2008 Femina Miss India event.
