Hospital ransack

A mob broke furniture and windows at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday morning, alleging negligence resulting in the death of a 24-year-old patient, Bubai Gomes. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday after sustaining injuries in a road accident. Police said about 30 people ransacked parts of the second floor of the hospital’s surgical building. The hospital superintendent lodged a police complaint.

Crude bomb

Four persons, including two children, were injured when a crude bomb exploded in a hut on Bhukailash Road in Kidderpore on Tuesday night. Police said local goon Sheikh Anwar, 18, was making bombs in the hut when one of them exploded. The hut collapsed, injuring a woman and her two children. They were admitted to SSKM Hospital.

Blockade

About 150 residents of Uttar Panchannyagram blocked the EM Bypass for about an hour on Wednesday morning protesting prolonged power cuts. The blockade was lifted around noon after police intervened.

Accidents

O.B. Daniel, a 71-year-old Beckbagan resident who used to teach at Bishop’s College, died after a truck hit his son’s two-wheeler, on which he was riding pillion, on GT Road in Serampore on Wednesday morning. pedestrian and two youths were injured in two other accidents at Kalighat and on Prince Anwar Shah Road on Wednesday morning.
