Life term for 13
Golaghat, June 26: The Golaghat sessions court today sentenced 13 people to life imprisonment, all labourers of Gobinpur tea estate, on charges of killing Roopak Gogoi, managing director of the estate, in 2005. While nine persons accused in the case have died, 57 others were acquitted. Roopak was the husband of Khumtai MLA Bismita Gogoi.
Stray rhino
Jorhat: A rhino, which had strayed from Kaziranga National Park, was found roaming in Patiagaon on Tuesday. Forest guards are keeping a close watch to protect the animal from poachers.
Fire damage
Jorhat: The first floor of a residential complex in Bongal Pukhuri here, was damaged in a fire on Tuesday.
Car theft
Jorhat: A Maruti 800 was stolen from the house of Chinmoy Rajkhowa, a resident of Sonari Gaon, on Monday night.
Workshop
Guwahati: A workshop on food safety and standard regulations will be held at NETA silver jubilee auditorium in Golaghat on June 28.
