New sponsor for football tournament

Guwahati, June 26: Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) has involved Premier Agro Bio-Tech, a Barpeta-based small-scale industry, as the title sponsor for the next three editions of its season opener N.N. Bhattacharya Football Tournament.

Announcing this here today, GSA president Rana Goswami said the eighth edition of the tournament would be held at the Nehru Stadium here from July 3 to 16.

“We are glad that Premier Agro Bio-Tech has come forward to sponsor the tournament for the next three editions. They are sponsoring Rs 70,000 in the Rs 90,000-budget event. Besides J.N. Bhattacharya, son of N.N. Bhattacharya, is contributing Rs 15,000 as prize money,” Goswami said. Kaamakaazi had sponsored the annual tournament for three years since 2009. Prior to that, the GSA had organised the event since 2005 spending from its own coffers. Handing over the cheque, Premier Agro Bio-Tech’s proprietor Biren Kalita said, “I am also sponsoring the runners-up trophy in my son’s name.” His son Simantajyoti Dutta Kalita, an avid football enthusiast, passed away in a road mishap a few years back.

J.N. Bhattacharya said he would provide new trophies from the ensuing edition of the tournament.
