Imphal, June 26: Posterior Hockey Academy Manipur moved into the final of the Manipur Hockey’s 3rd State Open Men and Women’s Hockey Tournament at Khuman Lampak hockey stadium.
In the last league match, Posterior nailed down South Eastern 10-0. They will meet Ideal Club, Tera, in the final.
Posterior collected six points in the league while Ideal stood second with three points.
B. Sarita Devi spearheaded the attack for Posterior, striking home six goals while S. Loibi Devi netted two goals, Th Romita Devi and A. Geetarani scored a goal each for the victory today.
In the men’s event, Khongman Students Club registered their straight second victory against Cachar Road Athletic Union by 6-1 goals.
L. Purnachandra Singh scored the opening goal for Khongman in the sixth minute while teammate L. Jacky Singh consolidated in the 9th minute and S. Meiraba took a goal in the 10th minute. Khongman increased the lead as Purnachandra Singh scored again in the 24th minute and S. Happy in the 26th minute to post a 5-0 lead in the 30th minute.
Cachar Road Athletic Union tried their best as H. Sanatomba scored in the 33th minute. But L. Purnachandra Singh scored in the 34th minute and A. Tompok in the 48th making the score 6-1 for the win today.
Foreign team
Wellington Phoenix, a football club from New Zealand, will in all probability play three friendly football matches here as a part of their pre-season tour. Calcutta-based High Life Management Consultancy Group approached the All-Manipur Football Association requesting permission and assistance if Manipur is made the venue. However, the names of club/teams from India that will play against Wellington Phoenix remains to be confirmed. Calcutta-based Prayag United is a likely participant. Wellington Phoenix had marked August 24-27 as their pre-season tour of India. The All Manipur Football Association responded positively to the request during a meeting yesterday.
Volleyball: The Volleyball Federation of India selected international referee N. Baleshor Singh as one the officials for Asian Cup Volleyball Championship to be held in Shanghai from June 30 to July 8.
