U-17 team on Lanka tour

Guwahati, June 24: The White Feather Sports Academy is going to organise an exposure tour for an under-17 school team from the state to Sri Lanka in November, the first overseas cricket exposure tour for a school outfit from the state.

The team has been invited by the Nuwara Eliya District Cricket Association, affiliated to Sri Lanka Cricket Board, to participate in some arranged matches at Colombo, Kandy and Galle. The team will play two two-day matches and six one-dayers during the tour from November 2 to 16. To select the team, the academy is going to organise a trial at the Machkhowa Idgaah here from 8am on July 1.

“The trials will not only be for schoolboys from Guwahati. We will expect players from different parts of the state,” said former Ranji player Syed Zakaria Zuffri, who is one of the technical advisers of the academy along with former Test cap Syed Saba Karim.

Zuffri said, “ We have applied to the Assam Cricket Association through the Guwahati Sports Association for permission and the former has assured us all help from its end to arrange the tour. The ACA has also assured us that they would co-ordinate the tour through the BCCI.”

“The basic aim of the tour is to provide a much-needed exposure to the talented players in the international arena,” said academy general secretary Sazid Ibney Subhan.
