Joint winners

The CAB tournament committee on Thursday declared East Bengal and Mohun Bagan as the joint winners of the P. Sen Trophy Memorial tournament. The decision was taken after the final was washed out on Tuesday.

All-Stars tie

Sports minister Madan Mitra on Thursday claimed an All Stars team comprising Raul Gonzalez, Luis Figo and Ronaldo among others will play an exhibition match with India XI later this year.

“An organisation is looking to conduct a match in which Raul, Figo, Fabio Cannavaro, Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo are expected to play for the All -Stars team, ” Mitra said on the sidelines of a function where it was announced that a new football academy in the name of Royal Bengal Tigers will be launched in Durgapur. It was also announced that 1994 World Cup winning captain Carlos Dunga will inaugurate the academy.

Rugby

England’s British Royal Air Force (RAF) and Rugby Uncle will participate along with 14 local teams in the Calcutta International Sevens to be played at the CC&FC on Saturday and Sunday. The RAF team have sent a 17-member squad. The team will also support the work of a sports development programme ‘Khelo Rugby’ run by the city club Jungle Crows — during their visit.
