New Delhi, June 21 (PTI): Compulsory cable TV digitisation rules took effect when they were notified in April, broadcasting regulator Trai said today, a day after the Centre pushed back a June 30 deadline for the change by four months.
The mandatory digitisation order is for the four metros. “These regulations and tariff order have come into effect prior to the timelines prescribed by the ministry of information and broadcasting,” Trai said.
The rules, two separate sets of regulations, were published in the gazette on April 30 and May 14 respectively. The new deadline of October 31 was fixed after Bengal and other states pleaded helplessness in completing the process by next weekend.
