Durgapur, June 21: Workers of a cement factory in Asansol, who had gone on strike yesterday demanding the arrest of the owner’s driver whose FIR alleging assault had led to the arrest of a labourer, resumed work today.
Trinamul Congress leader Abhijit Ghatak called up the factory owner today and told him that the workers wanted to resume work.
“I said they were welcome to start work but there should be no condition ,” said Pawan Gutgutia, the owner of Asansol Cement.
The labourers had struck work demanding the arrest of Gutgutia’s driver. On Monday, driver Mustakin Khan and worker Jamal Khan had an altercation that allegedly led to a scuffle. After the incident, Mustakin lodged an FIR and Jamal was arrested. “The workers may have grievances but they will have to settle the matter without hampering production,” Ghatak said.
