First steps

The first batch of graduating students of design of Raffles Millennium International (RMI) made a sure-footed debut with their graduation show at The Royal Bengal Room of City Centre Salt Lake. Samsara, the runway show, saw six designers present their own take on the theme, Samsara, the circle of life.

First came Saadhika Jhunjhunwalla’s ‘Deceptive body protecting the ceaseless soul’, a stiff outer garment covering a slim and flowy inner. Next up was Aakriti Bhaniramka’s ‘Illusions’, where geeky-chic styling met 3D garments in monochrome. Shruti Bharech’s ‘Over the moon, down in the dumps’ was interpreted in terms of contrasting silhouettes. Saman Ali took the most literal route with ‘Le Cycle Da La Psyche’ and different ages of man. Aastha Chowdhury’s line studying romance and realism came next. The best was reserved for last with Alexander McQueen-fan Richa Dhupar’s ‘Blind man’s bluff’.

The director of RMI, Domenico Daffan had pointed out at the beginning of the show: “Do keep in mind that they have been students of design only for two years.” Bearing that in mind we’d have to agree with designer and guest Kiran Uttam Ghosh when she said: “Great work.”
