FIRSTLOOK

SRI RETURNS: That’s Sridevi in her comeback film English Vinglish, the first-look poster of which was unveiled over the weekend. The mother of two — who returns to face the camera after a 14-year sabbatical — plays a homemaker who enrolls in an English-speaking course to please her husband and kids. Produced by Paa and Cheeni Kum maker R. Balki, English Vinglish marks the directorial debut of his wife Gauri Shinde. Also starring Adil Hussain, south star Priya Anand and French actor Mehdi Nebbou, English Vinglish has Amitabh Bachchan playing a cameo. The film releases on September 21.

AASHIQUI RELOADED: While Guzaarish man Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, the daughter of Shakti Kapoor, have been finalised to play the leads in Aashiqui 2, the Bhatts are crying themselves hoarse to clarify that the film is not a remake or a sequel to their 1990 musical blockbuster. Also, that the two young actors will not be slipping into the shoes of the lovebirds played by Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal in the iconic original.

“It’s an original script. It’s a contemporary love story dealing with mature emotions,” was all that producer Mukesh Bhatt was willing to let in on the film that goes on the floors shortly.

However, rumours are now doing the rounds that Aashiqui 2 will be a remake of the Bhatts’ Anil Kapoor-Meenakshi Seshadri-Govinda love triangle Awaargi. While the Bhatt camp remains mum, another name has been added to the Aashiqui 2 list. Shaad Randhawa — seen in Bhatt films like Woh Lamhe and Awarapan — has joined the cast.
