Tanushree with Prakash Singham Raj and Jaya Prada on the sets of Rajjo in Mumbai

Tanushree’s rajjo: She’s “missing home” a lot but Tolly girl Tanushree is happy that she is finally shooting for her Bolly debut. She plays the title role in Vishwas Patil’s first Hindi film Rajjo.

“I am lucky that I have got a lead role in my very first Bollywood film!” Tanushree told t2 over phone from Mumbai. “I’m dying to come back home but since I play the protagonist, the shoot schedules are very hectic. I play Rajjo, who is sold off by her elder sister.... Rajjo becomes a prostitute but she considers herself an artiste,” added Tanushree.

So, how did she land a Bolly film? “Well, Vishwasji’s team contacted me after watching Bedroom (directed by Mainak Bhaumik). They liked my audition and that’s how it happened.... And since I will be shooting for the whole of July, I have taken up an apartment on Yari Road,” said Tanushree, who is excited about getting the opportunity to work with “the best in Bollywood”. “Ilaiyaraaja has done the background score. Binod Pradhan (Rang De Basanti, Devdas) is doing the camera. Birju Maharaj and Ganesh Acharya are the choreographers.... I’m learning a lot!” she said.
