Kongpal lift title

Imphal, June 13: Kongpal ISAV lifted the title beating Khurai Veteran Football Association 2-0 in the 2nd Ng. Shamu Singh Memorial Veteran Football Tournament, 2012 played at the YWC Malom ground.

Kongpal ISAV, who dominated the proceedings, went ahead in the 30th minute, with N. Itocha Singh scoring the first goal.

Kongpal sealed the game in the 52nd minute, with N. Itocha Singh bagging his second goal of the game by slotting home calmly past the keeper. Kongpal ISAV collected Rs 25,000 along with the winner’s trophy, while Khurai Veteran Football Association got Rs 15,000 along with the runners-up trophy.

N. Itocha Singh bagged two individual prizes, including the tournament top- scorer with seven goals and the first scorer of the final.

The best player award went to T. Shyam Singh (cash prize of Rs 1,000) and the best goalkeeper to A. Priyobrata of Khurai Veteran Football Association, while the oldest player award went to K. Kanhai of TRVSA. The best disciplined award went to Canchipur IVFA, which included a cash prize of Rs 1,000.

Cycling: The Manipur Cycling Association said four cyclists from the state have been included in the junior core probables list for the 20th Asian Cycling Championship to be held at New Delhi. The cyclists are K. Amarjit Meitei, T. Bidyalaxmi Devi, T. Manorama Devi and H. Bedana Devi and they will attend training camps at Patiala from June 15 to 26 and Shilaroo from June 26 to July 18.

Fencing: The Manipur Fencing Association has selected 29 players and eight officials for participation in the Navy Open Fencing Championship to be held at Bangkok from June 22 to 25.
