Three girls missing
Three girls, aged between seven and 13 years, went missing from a field in front of their house at Nandibagan in Golabari, Howrah, on Tuesday evening. The three were seen playing near their house till 5.30pm. More than 14 kids have gone missing from this area in the past four years, said cops.
CU pro-VC: Dhrubojyoti Chatterjee will be re-appointed as pro-vice chancellor (academic) of Calcutta University for another four years, a senior official of the higher education department said on Wednesday. Chatterjee’s first four-year tenure as the CU pro-VC had ended on June 2.
Train accident: A 58-year-old man died after he slipped and fell under the wheels of a train at Howrah station on Wednesday. Police said Angshuman Chowdhury, a Baguiati resident, was trying to hop onto the Rampurhat Express as it was rolling out of the platform.
Help held: Police arrested a 25-year-old domestic help on Wednesday for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth around Rs 1.5 lakh from her employer’s house at Behala on Saturday. Police said Shampa Mondal had joined work at the house of Pinky Pal three weeks ago. The family discovered the theft on Tuesday.
Youths arrested: Five youths were arrested from Regent Park on Tuesday night for allegedly damaging the motorcycle and abusing the wife of an online trader who owed them money. The woman lodged a complaint on Tuesday night. The trader is not in town, said police. |
