AASU protest
Jorhat. June 10: AASU activists staged a protest in front of the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital this evening alleging negligence by medical staff of the hospital, which led to the death of a woman, Kritanjali Gogoi of Garmur, during childbirth earlier today.
Rebel killed
Imphal: Assam Rifles gunned down a militant in an encounter at Wango in Bishnupur on Saturday night. The identity of the militant is yet to be established. The Assam Rifles team recovered a 9mm pistol from him.
Encounter
Tinsukia: Raju Gupta, the alleged kingpin of a gang of kidnappers, was killed in an encounter with security forces at Dangoria Tinali here on Saturday night. Police claimed that Raju was involved in several incidents of kidnapping in Tinsukia recently.
Mishap
Bongaigaon: Two people died on the spot and eight were injured after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned after its brakes failed in Patiladoha Tinali in Bongaigaon. The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bongaigaon. The victims were identified as Akabbar Ali, 65, and Mojammil Haque, 24.
Dowry arrest
Tezpur: Sonitupr police on Saturday night arrested an ASTC junior engineer, Hasmat Ali, and his son Sarfaraz of Gutlong, for seeking dowry. The police said the victim, Rukhsana Begum, wife of Sarfaraz, lodged a complaint against her husband and father-in-law for allegedly seeking Rs 50,000 and a laptop in dowry. She further accused the duo of torturing her.
