H. Jacky named champion

Imphal, June 10: H. Jacky was crowned champion in the 22nd Kh. Anou Singh Memorial State Open Chess Tournament, at Kwakeithel Boys Junior School today.

He managed a draw in the seventh match-winning round with defending champion and former The Telegraph chess champion Kh. Sanjoy Singh, sharing half a point each.

He garnered six points for the victory and Rs 6,000 as prize-money.

Jacky finished on top of the points table while Kh. Sanjoy got 5.5 points.

The other players who finished with 5.5 points are S. Premjit, Y. Dhanabir, Rk. Bhogen and Kh. Merajao.

However, on a better progressive score, S. Premjit was placed in the second spot while Kh. Sanjoy took the third spot.

Sepak takraw

Youth Amateur Welfare Association defeated Ideal Club Tera by 3-1 sets in the 1st Invitational Sepak Takraw Tournament 2012 in memory of Lamyanba Arambam Somorendro at Sagolband Tera Bazar.

Youth Amateur team dominated the first two sets, taking it by 15-13, 15-12 points.

However, Ideal Club raced up in the third set for a ray of hope.

But Youth Amateur clinched the final set with 15-8 points for the victory.

The third place match was won by ALSA Top Siphai beating SAI RC by 3-2 sets with 15-10, 7-15, 9-15, 15-11 and 17-16 points.

Swimming: Jorhat emerged as winners on Sunday in the 21st Inter-district Swimming Competition, organised at the acquatic sports complex in Jorhat.

Football: The All Manipur Football Association will hold the 7th Manipur State League 2012 from August 18. It has informed clubs to register their entries before August 5.
