Woman valour

Agra, June 10 (PTI): A pregnant woman whose husband was shot at point-blank range by two bike-borne assailants on Saturday helped their capture by holding on to one of them.

Pooja grabbed the leg of one of the shooters. Local people, alerted by her cries, caught him. The other attacker was nabbed after a chase. Pooja’s husband, a 22-year-old law student, died on his way to hospital.

NY brawl

New York (PTI): An Indian-American who allegedly assaulted the disabled 72-year-old president of the New York Kali Mandir has been slapped with a restraining order by a court. The victim, Ajoy Nayak, alleged that he had been attacked by Suman Saha and others after he discovered frauds by his predecessor.

Rave party

Hyderabad (PTI): Five people, including an alleged drug peddler from Uganda, were arrested after police busted a rave party at Banjara Hills on Saturday.

Korea duped

New Delhi (PTI): An alleged fraud by a property dealer has jeopardised a Korean cultural centre project promised by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak in 2010. The country’s embassy has registered a case against Yashwant Singh for cheating them of Rs 57 lakh by promising to rent a four-storeyed building although he had already leased a part of it to another person.

Leopard body

Kotdwara (PTI): The body of a man-eating leopard has been found at Garhwal forest in Uttarakhand. Forest officials suspect that the animal was shot dead. The leopard had attacked a child and officials had been on the lookout for it.

Drug arrests

Barabanki (PTI): A narcotic smuggler and his three associates were arrested in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Morphine worth Rs 70 lakh was found on them, police said. Maksood and his accomplices were caught from the railway station in Barabanki while were trying to leave the city, a senior officer said.
