Dimple gets a walkover

Dimple Yadav

Lucknow, June 8: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple is set to be elected to the Lok Sabha unopposed after the last two candidates against her from the Kannauj seat pulled out today.

“This (the withdrawals) left Dimple Yadav as the only candidate in the fray. She has thus been elected unopposed from the constituency but a formal announcement will be made by the Election Commission in a day or two,” additional electoral officer Ramesh Chand Yadav said.

This evening, the Assembly adopted a resolution congratulating Dimple on the “historic” triumph.

The decks for cleared for Dimple when Dashrath Singh Shankwar, the Samyukt Samajwadi Dal candidate, and Independent Sanju Katiyar withdrew from the contest. Today was the last day for withdrawal of nominations.
