United Progressive fencers claim three gold

Imphal, June 7: United Progressive Adults Association fencers ruled the pitch, claiming three gold medals in the 8th Governor’s Cup State-Level Fencing Championship 2012 at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium.

In the mini boys’ Sabre event, H. Chingkheihunba Singh defeated compatriot S. Chingkhei Singh for the gold. United Progressive fencer S. Chingkheinganbi defeated A. Roji Devi of PPLYDO Pebia Pandit for the gold in the sub-junior girls’ Foil event.

S. Ningthouba Singh delivered United Progressive team’s third gold as he beat Rk. Sitan Singh of Social Worker Congress in the mini boys’ Foil event.

Football: Oxford English School qualified for the state-level round of the Subroto Mukherjee U-17 Football Tournament 2012, defeating City Higher Secondary School by a solitary goal in the Imphal West district level match at Khuman Lampak sports complex.

In the U-17 girls’ category, Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School beat Konjeng Leikai High School by 3-1 goals for a place in the state-level encounter. In the U-14 boys’ match, Nilamani English High School Mayang Imphal thrashed Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School by 7-0 goals.

Asia Cup: Three Manipur girls, P. Sushila Chanu, Th. Pinky Devi and M. Lily Chanu will feature in the Indian squad for the Junior Women Asia Cup Hockey Tournament in Bangkok from June 27- July 7.
