New Delhi, June 6 (PTI): Medical insurance companies cannot describe a disease as pre-existing unless it has been certified by a doctor on the basis of tests prior to the purchase of the policy, a consumer forum has ruled.
The forum asked the National Insurance Company to pay Rs 75,000 to a Delhi resident whose wife had been hospitalised for a month with breathing problems. The company had rejected a reimbursement claim contending that she had heart ailments that pre-dated the policy.
New Delhi: Election commissioner V.S. Sampath has been named the next chief election commissioner and will take charge when S.Y. Quraishi retires on June 10. He will preside over the 2014 general election.
New Delhi (PTI): Delhi High Court has ordered police to impound the revolver of a retired army captain after his wife accused him of threatening to kill her. The judge also asked the police to provide protection to the woman if she asks for it.
Mumbai (PTI): A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Hyderabad with 114 passengers made a precautionary landing at the Nagpur airport on Wednesday after the pilot detected an engine vibration. The passengers were accommodated in another flight, a statement from the airline said.
Satna (PTI): Two children died on Wednesday soon after they were given measles vaccines in a village in Madhya Pradesh. The toddlers died within half-an-hour of the vaccinations. The inoculation officer has been suspended and a probe is on, officials said.
Idukki (PTI): Kerala CPM on Wednesday removed M.M. Mani from the post of Idukki district secretary. He is facing criminal charges for a speech in which he said his party had eliminated its foes in the past. He failed to appear before police on Wednesday. His lawyers said Mani had approached Kerala High Court for quashing the FIR.
