Tata boys in handball squad

Cadets of Tata Steel Training Centre have managed to reserve maximum seats in the 16-member Jharkhand squad for the 35th Junior Boys’ National Handball Championship, which kicked off in Indore on Tuesday.

After a four-day selection trial at JRD Tata Sports Complex last week, 11 boys from the Tata centre were picked. They are Anil Sahu, Avinash Kumar Dubey, Gurjeet Singh, Abhishek Kumar, Rahul Kumar Gupta, Azim Khan, Md Shahbaz Khan, Syed Azhar Hussain, S.K. Shadab Hussain, Savinder Singh and Md. Sarfaraz Nawaz.

Tausif Khan and K. Sourav Rao from Seraikela-Kharsawan and Shahbaz Ansari, Gautam Kumar and Amit Kumar Singh from Bokaro have also earned berths.

Jharkhand Handball Association secretary Khurshid Khan said, “Our boys have not been able to come up with good performances at the junior nationals so far. They failed to even qualify for knockout stages earlier. But this time, we are confident that they will turn the tide.”
