Ayan, Indrani lift singles titles

Guwahati, June 3: Ayan Rashid of Guwahati and Rajkumari Indrani Gogoi of Nazira today lifted the under-10 boys’ and girls’ singles titles respectively in the 2nd All Assam Ranking badminton championship under way at the Don Bosco School indoor stadium here.

Rashid defeated Navyaranjan Das of Sivasagar 21-17, 21-5 for the boys’ title while Gogoi overcame Debhauti Lahon of Nazira 21-19, 8-21, 21-15 for the girls’ crown.

Pragyan Jyoti Gogoi of Nagaon will play Orijit Chaliha of Guwahati in the under-13 boys’ singles final.

In the semi-finals today, Gogoi defeated Pallav Bikash Baruah of Nazira 21-11, 21-19 while Chaliha came back from behind to overcome Rituparna Bora of Guwahati 17-21, 21-14, 21-18.

Guwahati girl Ashmita Chaliha will clash with Ningshi Block Hazarika of Dibrugarh in the under-17 girls’ singles final. Chaliha Meghna Borbora of Dibrugarh 21-11, 21-14 and Hazarika prevailed over Darshana Sharma of Tezpur 21-10, 21-10.

In under-13 girls’ singles, Kasturi Phukan of Tinsukia set up final clash with Adreeta Buragohain of Dibrugarh getting the better of Chimran Kalita of Guwahati 13-21, 21-5, 21-13. Buragohain came back from behind to register a 13-21, 21-18, 21-19 win over Nikita Phukan of Jorhat in the semi-finals.

Kaberi Phukan of Sivasagar set up final clash with Rituparna Kalita of Guwahati in the women's singles. While Phukan prevailed over Prangana Baruah of Dibrugarh 21-13, 21-8, Kalita eased past Bornali Konwar of Dibrugarh 21-7, 21-9 in the semi-finals.

In boys’ under-17 singles, Rishav Sharma of Guwahati beat Tridip Boro of Dibrugarh 21-14, 21-11 to set up final clash with Deepjyoti Dutta of Guwahati. Dutta defeated Kashyap Neog of Tinsukia 21-16, 21-16 in the semi-finals.
