ANVC mulls action against ‘trafficker’

Shillong, June 3: The ANVC, currently under ceasefire, may take action against its member, Sasan Sangma, for his alleged involvement in the trafficking of girls from Garo hills for prostitution in Shillong.

According to reports, on Friday night, six girls were brought to Shillong allegedly by the ANVC cadre, on the pretext of getting them admitted to a college.

ANVC publicity secretary Arist Sangma said over phone from Tura today that the rebel was a lance corporal hailing from Nongalbibra, South Garo Hills and if his involvement in the flesh trade was proved, action would be taken against him.“I tried to call the cadre but his cell phone was switched off,” Sangma said.

He also contacted the police in Shillong to know more details of the case.

“The police told me that the cadre was called for interrogation and later he was released. But I am still trying to contact him to know what exactly happened,” the ANVC leader said.

According to Sangma, the rebel’s action will “tarnish the image of the ANVC”.

The police said while four girls were picked up from a city hotel along with four boys, two girls were rescued from the rented accommodation of the cadre at Happy Valley in Shillong.

The police interrogated them and subsequently the Garo church leaders in contacted the victims.
