Citizen’s outfit upset with civic scan

Dumka, June 3: A citizen vigilante outfit has condemned a team of urban development department officials alleging shoddy inspection of development schemes taken up by the Dumka Municipal Council.

The Nagrik Vikas Sangharsh Samiti, which had earlier complained to the Santhal Pargana commissioner accusing the civic body of funds misuse, was far from satisfied after a two-member team yesterday inspected various projects including marriage halls, roads and drainage.

Ehtesham Ahmad, district secretary of the CPI(M) and an office-bearer of the samiti, alleged that the team consisting of superintending engineer Umesh Prasad Gupta and assistant engineer Yogendra Prasad Gupta did not take up the job in a transparent manner.

He alleged that several contractors in connivance with executive officer of the council Kumar Niraj and a few ward councillors had committed had siphoned off public money to commit large-scale irregularities.

“The team was not equipped with required documents such as measurement book and estimates,” Ahmad said.
