The national anthems of Italy and India filled the air of The Ballroom at Hyatt Regency on Friday evening. Celebrating Italy’s 48th National Day, “the Italian community” in Calcutta and “many Indian friends” came together as Joel Melchiori, the Italian consul-general in Calcutta, took the stage. “This year, we are having a low-profile event because of the earthquake that hit Italy recently,” he said. At the do were diplomats from countries like Bangladesh, Germany, Bhutan and Chile. “We also got to meet the new diplomats in Calcutta like the new Russian consul-general and the Bangladesh deputy high commissioner,” said guest Sundeep Bhutoria. Visiting Italian chef Pauletto Massimiliano stirred up a sumptuous spread at the star address.
