Youth get chance to hone business skills

Bhubaneswar, June 2: Eighty youngsters began a nine-day journey on Saturday to develop their entrepreneurial skills.

During this journey the participants will visit various social organisations and interact with entrepreneurs in Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Cuttack. This programme aims at encouraging the youngsters to start their own venture in future.

The programme titled “Odisha Yuva Jagarana Yatra” is being organised by Youth Development Foundation of Odisha, a private body, and sponsored by the state sports and youth services department.

Sources in the state sports and youth services department said the programme would take place in four stages. The other three journeys are scheduled to take place between August 15 and 23, November 12 and 20 and January 12 and 20, 2013.

During the programme the youngsters will take part in seminars and workshops on entrepreneurship led development. These seminars will be held in various colleges and universities and at the local government level to identify areas of concern related to entrepreneurship development in the state.

Expenses related to participants’ travel, boarding and lodging would be borne by the state sports and youth services department. In the first phase of the programme, the participants have been chosen from eight districts — Koraput, Nabrangpur, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir and Kandhamal.

“This is a great opportunity for us as we would visit many places, interact with successful entrepreneurs and learn a lot from them,” said Priyanka Priyadarshini, one of the participants.

“We are hopeful of making the programme a success. We want to ensure that the participants get maximum exposure during such visits so that they are encouraged to start their own venture in future,” said Gobida Ballav Dalai, a member of Youth Development Foundation of Odisha.
